KEEPING PRAYER ALIVE
We have to keep the tradition alive … and in order to do so innovation is often required. This thinking motivated us to innovate the Ruach Service which took place on Saturday, May 12th.
What was traditional? The Shabbat morning service which retained the ancient format of the prayers. What was innovative? A triennial Torah reading, a common practice of Conservative synagogues reading approximately one third of the sidrah, upbeat non-instrumental contemporary singing (led by the Cantor, Magda Fishman and the Ruach Acappella Quartet). Fewer prayers were uttered, but I believe, with greater feeling and attentiveness than usual.
The service began at 9:45 am, preceded by a continental breakfast at 9:15 am, and ended at 12:15 pm. Plans are to offer this most meaningful service several times a year. As we craft the service for next season, we welcome your input.
Please attend and help us keep the deeply meaningful tradition of Shabbat worship alive and current.
